Identification:

18cm
Black back, hind neck, and crown
White forehead cheeks and underparts
Yellow-tipped orange beak. The lower mandible is longer than the upper one
White short forked tail
Very long wings
Bright red legs

Habitat:

Wide rivers with unvegetated sandbanks, lakeshores, and coastal lagoons.

Behaviour:

Intra African migrant.

Diet:

The diet is mainly small fish.

Breeding:

Monogamous and colonial.  The nest is a deep scrape on a sandbar.
