Identification:

The very long graduated tail, with black and white plumage is distinctive.

Habitat:

Acacia and savanna areas.

Behaviour:

Common resident but moves locally in response to drought and fires. They are usually in groups of three to twelve.

Diet:

Mainly insects but also small reptiles, mice and fruit.

Breeding:

Monogamous and often co-operative. A cup nest is usually placed 3 to 6 meters up Acacia trees.
